The Different Angry Birds Characters Explained

by Nick W. on July 20, 2011

Although Angry Birds has brilliant gameplay and excellent graphics, the real reason why everyone plays is undoubtedly due to the characters that the game exhibits. They are introduced in stages through the game and provide variety and fun – something that every good game should have. With all of them having different looks and different attributes, it is vital that serious players know exactly how to use their characters properly and therefore give themselves the best chance possible of not just completing a level, but of completing a level to a three star standard! So what are these different characters and how exactly are they used to best effect?

Basic Angry Birds Characters

There are a number of different characters that you will encounter throughout the game and it is these common character that everyone should be completely comfortable using. The first of these is the easiest to use, but also probably the most ineffective – the red bird. These are simply used as battering rams and don’t have any special features – just aim them and let them clatter into the nearest structure! They are great for setting up a move for a more specialized character, but on their own they are pretty useless! More useful are the super-sized red birds – these are essentially wrecking balls and will completely decimate the whole area when launched!

The blue bird is the smallest in the game but within has a potent secret – tapping on the screen will cause it to multiply into three different birds, which leads to three times the destruction! This means they can either be used to attack three different spots or – more effectively – deployed at the last second and used for a three pronged attack on the same location.

The yellow bird is probably everyone’s favorite. It is triangular in shape and is perfect for smashing through large amounts of debris, due to the fact that when the screen is tapped it accelerates to a high speed. It is slightly weak when trying to penetrate through blocks of ice though, so use the weaker red birds to do this first.

The black birds are the most destructive in the game, as they are literally ticking time bombs. Use them to fire into areas crowded with debris and watch as everything gets blown away by this hugely useful bird. They are also very useful at getting to those hard to reach pigs – including the bosses at the end of each theme.

The white bird is, in my opinion, the most useless bird in the game. It drop bombs but these are weak and therefore don’t do much damage. Great if you need to target one small area, but otherwise don’t expect too much!

The final normal bird is the green bird, which is difficult to control but at the same time a lot of fun! They are essentially boomerangs and when the player clicks the screen they start heading back to where they came from, making them perfect for sneaking behind enemy lines and destroying those pigs from a completely different angle.

The Mighty Eagle

This is a character that must be purchased before being able to use it and the player will also only get to use it a limited number of times. It is the ultimate in destruction and will completely decimate a whole level – therefore making it perfect should you be struggling to complete a level for a long time.
